New Trackmatic Driver
Trackmatic Driver: one driver app, three useful fleet tools
Track the shift. Know who was driving. Record the vehicle check.
Vehicle tracking is only part of it. Trackmatic Driver turns a driver’s phone into a shift tracker, records which driver had which vehicle, and captures the daily walk-around check — all inside the Trackmatic platform you already use.
Try phone tracking, driver identification and walk-around checks free for six months — use one tool or all three.
Available on eligible Trackmatic plans and supported smartphones. We’ll confirm exactly what’s included when you enquire.
Three tools, one app
What Trackmatic Driver does
Your drivers open one app. Behind it are three tools you can switch on together or separately, driver by driver — and you should not need to fit extra hardware to use them.
-
Phone tracking
Track the shift
The driver taps Start Shift and their phone records the journey until they tap End Shift. Ideal for shared or temporary vehicles, or wherever you would rather not fit another tracker.
Their phone records the journey from Start Shift to End Shift.
How phone tracking works → -
Driver identification
Know who was driving
Each shift is linked to a named driver and vehicle, so reports show who drove what, and when. In many fleets that means no RFID reader to fit and no fobs to hand out.
Each shift is tied to a named driver and vehicle, often with no RFID fobs needed.

Walk-around checks
Record the vehicle check
Drivers log mileage, tyres, lights, fluids, damage and photos from their phone. Defects land in your Trackmatic portal for review: a clear record, and fewer paper check sheets.

Phone tracking
Track the shift from the driver’s phone
When a driver taps Start Shift, their smartphone records the journey until they tap End Shift. Journeys then appear in Trackmatic alongside the rest of your fleet.
- Useful for shared vans, hire or temporary vehicles, and drivers who move between vehicles.
- Extra visibility without fitting another tracker.
- Recording follows the working shift, not the clock — and the driver controls Start and End.
- Journey history keeps the driver’s name against it.
Phone tracking follows the shift, not the vehicle. Trackmatic Driver records while it is open on the driver’s phone, so a phone mount works best. For round-the-clock tracking, stolen vehicle recovery and alerts such as tow or jamming detection, an installed tracker is still the right tool — and the two work together in one platform.

Driver identification
Know who was driving — without extra hardware
Traditional driver identification often needs a reader in the vehicle plus a fob or card for every driver. With Trackmatic Driver, drivers identify themselves through the app when they start their shift, so you can see who had which vehicle without necessarily buying RFID equipment.
- Which driver was driving.
- Which vehicle they had.
- During which shift and time.
- The journeys and vehicle checks from that shift, under the same name.
What “driver identification” means here: Trackmatic records which driver started the shift on which vehicle. If you need an in-cab identity check for a specific requirement, talk to us about what fits.
The usual way
- An RFID reader fitted in the vehicle
- A fob or card for every driver
- Fobs to issue, swap and replace
- Shared vehicles mean fobs changing hands
With Trackmatic Driver
- The driver’s phone does the job
- No reader to fit, no fobs to buy
- Each driver starts their own shift
- Set up once per driver in your portal
Driver walk-around checks
Vehicle checks on the phone, defects in your portal
Instead of paper check sheets, drivers complete the daily or pre-shift walk-around in the app. The result goes straight to your Trackmatic portal, with the photographs and notes attached.
- Mileage entry, then tyres and wheels, lights, mirrors and windows, fluids, vehicle condition and damage.
- Each item marked OK, N/A or Defect — with a severity, notes and photographs for defects.
- Defects can alert your team by email, then be reviewed in the portal, acknowledged, repaired and closed.
- A clear audit trail: who checked which vehicle, when, and what they found.

How a shift works
Six simple steps, one continuous app
Drivers pair their phone once. After that, a working day is Start Shift, an optional walk-around, and End Shift.
Open Trackmatic Driver
The driver opens the app on their phone. It is paired once, so there is nothing to type each day.
Tap Start Shift
One tap starts the working shift on their vehicle.
Do the walk-around
Mileage, tyres, lights, fluids, damage and photos of any defect.
If you require itTracking begins
The phone starts recording the shift by itself, as soon as any required check has been submitted.
Trackmatic knows who is driving
Driver, vehicle and shift are linked, so journeys and reports carry the driver’s name.
Your team sees it
Live activity, journey history, completed checks and open defects appear in your Trackmatic portal.
Flexible by design
Use one tool, or all three
You are not obliged to switch everything on. Choose what each driver needs, and change it as your fleet changes.
Phone tracking with driver identification
Best for shared vans, temporary vehicles and drivers who move between vehicles. See who had which vehicle, and where the shift went.
Walk-around checks on their own
Best when your vehicles are already tracked and you simply want a digital daily check, with photographs and defects in one place.
The whole shift in one record
The check, the driver, the vehicle and the journeys together — from Start Shift to End Shift, in the same Trackmatic platform.
- Set per driver in your portal
- Works alongside installed trackers
- No extra hardware to fit
For the fleet manager
Everything lands in the portal you already use
Nothing new to log in to. What drivers record on their phones shows up in Trackmatic, next to the rest of your fleet.
- Who is driving which vehicle during an open shift.
- Journey history attributed to a named driver, not just a vehicle.
- Completed checks with the date, driver and vehicle against them.
- Open defects with severity, notes and photographs.
- An honest record: a check that was skipped is recorded as skipped, never as done.

Questions
Trackmatic Driver, answered
What is phone tracking?
Phone tracking uses the driver's smartphone as the tracking device during a shift. The driver taps Start Shift, the phone records the journey, and they tap End Shift when the working day finishes. It suits shared or temporary vehicles, and gives you extra visibility without fitting another tracker.
What is driver identification?
Driver identification records which driver was driving which vehicle, and when. With Trackmatic Driver the driver starts their shift in the app, so each shift, journey and vehicle check carries the driver's name.
Do I still need RFID fobs or readers?
Not necessarily. Traditional driver identification often needs a reader in the vehicle plus a fob or card for each driver. Trackmatic Driver identifies the driver through their phone instead, so in many fleets there is no extra RFID equipment to buy or fit. If you have a specific requirement for an in-cab reader, ask us and we will tell you what fits.
What does the walk-around check record?
Mileage, tyres and wheels, lights, mirrors and windows, fluids, vehicle condition and damage. Each item is marked OK, N/A or Defect, with a severity, notes and photographs for defects. The results appear in your Trackmatic portal.
What happens when a driver reports a defect?
It is recorded against the driver, the vehicle and that check, with its severity, notes and photographs. Your team reviews it in the portal, acknowledges it, tracks the repair and closes it, and the history stays on record.
Can I use one tool without the others?
Yes. Phone tracking with driver identification, and walk-around checks, are set per driver, so you can use either or both. Nothing has to be switched on that you do not need.
Do I still need installed trackers?
Trackmatic Driver does not replace installed trackers in every case. A phone follows the shift; an installed tracker follows the vehicle around the clock and supports features such as stolen vehicle recovery. Many fleets use both, and both show in the same Trackmatic platform.
Is the driver tracked all the time?
No. Recording runs between Start Shift and End Shift, and the driver controls both. Trackmatic Driver records while it is open on the phone during the shift, so a phone mount works best.
What is the six-month offer?
Phone tracking, driver identification and walk-around checks are free to use for six months on eligible Trackmatic plans. Pricing after the free period depends on your fleet, so we confirm it with you when you enquire rather than publishing a figure.
